Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced a dominant performance on Thursday night, defeating the Panthers of Gabon 4–1 after extra time to advance to the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs at the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.

After a goalless first half, Akor Adams opened the scoring early in the second period, capitalising on a defensive blunder to put Nigeria ahead.

Gabon, however, found an equaliser just four minutes before the end of regulation time, forcing the tense encounter into extra time.

The Super Eagles regained control in extra time, with Chidera Ejuke restoring Nigeria’s lead through a composed finish. Victor Osimhen then sealed the win in style, scoring twice to complete the emphatic victory.

Nigeria’s defence, marshalled by Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey, held firm to repel Gabon’s late attacking threats and preserve the team’s commanding lead.

The result keeps Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes alive, as the team now progresses to the final playoff round, where a win would secure their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
