Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, has called on Nigerian youths to take full ownership of the nation’s digital evolution by shifting from being mere consumers of technology to active creators and innovators.

Ogunlende delivered the message at the “Web3 in Motion” conference held in Lagos, according to a statement issued on Friday by the event’s convener, Samuel Oladokun.

“Don’t wait for the future; build it. Don’t just consume technology; create it,” the commissioner said, urging young Nigerians to position themselves as leaders in the advancing Web3 and digital ecosystem.

Oladokun, popularly known as XeusTheGreat and founder of Nirvana Academy, said the commissioner’s comments underscored the pivotal role youths must play in shaping Africa’s digital future. He noted that the event’s theme, “Web3 in Motion: From Pipelines to Platforms,” highlighted the importance of Africans leading in global digital transformation.

“Excellence is what puts you on global platforms,” Oladokun told participants, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and education beyond financial gains. “You can’t build a global platform in isolation. You have to step out, physically and digitally.”

The conference hosted over 30 speakers and exhibitors from across government, decentralised finance, regulation, and community development.

Key speakers included the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama; CEO of Jeroid, Jeremiah Mayowa; Co-founder of Hyperbridge, Seun Lanlege; and Mobile Engineer at Cake Wallet, David Adegoke.

Agama urged Nigerian youths to deepen their technical skills and legal knowledge, saying the government is committed to building a globally competitive digital economy. “Learn to code solidly, study digital laws, and understand decentralised finance,” he advised.

The event was organised by a five-member team led by Oladokun, with Sarah Idahosa (Programmes Director), Idris Olubisi (Partnership Director), Amarachi Nwachukwu (Marketing Lead), Oreoluwa Zebulun Ajayi (Creative Director), and Obembe Oluwatobiloba (Logistics Lead) contributing to its coordination.
