At least three Nigerian nationals have been arrested in Mwaliko Estate, Mwea Town, Kenya, over allegations of involvement in cyber fraud.

According to a report by Kenyan digital news outlet Tuko News, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday by operatives of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations during a coordinated multi-agency raid.

The individuals arrested were identified as Peter Chukwujekwu, Alazor Chukulute Sunday, and Nnalue Chiagozie Samwe.

Their arrest followed complaints from members of the public, who reported suspicious late-night movements and activities within the apartment where the men resided.

The DCI, confirming the operation, said: “Three Nigerian nationals nabbed in Kirinyaga multi-agency raid. A well-coordinated multi-agency raid in Mwaliko Estate within Mwea town has blown the lid off a suspected cyber fraud ring operated by three Nigerian nationals.”

Investigators said the suspects, who claimed to be operating an online business, had no valid work permits and were living in Kenya illegally.

The incident adds to a series of arrests of Nigerian nationals in Kenya over cybercrime-related offences. In June 2023, 19 Nigerians were arrested in Nairobi for allegedly running an electronic fraud scheme targeting unsuspecting Kenyans.

According to the DCI, the group lured victims through Facebook by pretending to send gifts through DHL from abroad before defrauding them.

Kenyan authorities say the crackdown on cyber fraud rings will continue as part of efforts to curb digital scams and enforce immigration regulations.
