2027 PRESIDENCY: EKITI PDP, APM LAUNCH SUPPORT DRIVE FOR MAKINDE

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ekiti State have commenced grassroots mobilisation in support of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The party members and supporters converged in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Thursday for an advocacy and campaign awareness programme aimed at strengthening the PDP-APM alliance and building support for Makinde’s presidential ambition.
The programme, tagged “APM Awareness Campaign,” brought together stakeholders from the state’s 16 Local Government Areas, including youths, women, artisans and other party members.
The convener of the alliance in Ekiti State, PDP chieftain Mrs Lanre Fajuyi, said the mobilisation was necessary because Makinde represented the kind of leadership she believed Nigeria needed at the moment.
Fajuyi urged PDP and APM members across the state to commence early grassroots mobilisation for Makinde’s emergence as president in 2027.
She said Nigerians were seeking a government that would prioritise the interests of the people, strengthen democratic governance and address the economic and social challenges confronting the country.
According to her, the campaign was motivated by the need to present Nigerians with a credible alternative to the current administration.
“Makinde represents the kind of leadership the country needs at the present time. I’m calling on the PDP and APM members across Ekiti to begin early grassroots mobilisation for his emergence as president in 2027,” she said.
She added that the coalition had considered the leadership qualities required to address the country’s challenges and concluded that Makinde was suitable for the presidency.
“We have looked around and asked ourselves who can provide the kind of leadership that Nigeria needs at this critical time. We believe that Governor Makinde is the right person for the position of the President of Nigeria, come 2027,” Fajuyi said.
Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate for the 2027 election following the formalisation of the PDP-APM alliance in May 2026. The alliance is being positioned by its promoters as a platform through which opposition parties and groups can mount a strong challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on the alliance, PDP/APM spokesperson for the South-West, Sanya Atofarati, said the partnership was formed to protect multi-party democracy and create a viable opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atofarati said the political development was also influenced by what he described as legal challenges and sanctions affecting the PDP, making it necessary for members seeking elective positions to consider an alternative platform.
“The beauty of democracy lies in the multi-party system. What we are witnessing today is a joint alliance between the PDP and the APM because we understand the legal impediments and sanctions currently confronting the PDP,” he said.
He added that the alliance would give PDP members and other opposition groups an avenue to remain politically active and contest elections under a viable platform.
The APM Vice Chairman in Ekiti State, Remilekun Solola, also endorsed the partnership, describing it as a strategic arrangement for building a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders said the mobilisation would continue at the grassroots level as the parties seek to expand their support base across Ekiti State and other parts of the country.
