Alleged cult attack: OAU SU president impeached
The Students’ Union president of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Edward Ibukun, has been impeached for allegedly sponsoring cult-like activities in the institution.
This was contained in a resolution made available to our correspondent on Sunday by the clerk of the OAU Students’ Representative Council, Iyiola Oluwatosin.
In the resolution, the president was alleged of transporting some suspected cult members to and fro the university campus.
But when contacted, the president said, “the impeachment is unconstitutional and did not follow due process”.
He also debunked sponsoring suspected cult members to and fro the university campus.
The resolution read in part, “Some suspected cult members came to OAU campus on November 1 through the newly purchased union bus which has been in the care and the custody of the president. It was also revealed and confirmed that the suspected cults escaped out of OAU campus through the same union bus.
“The cult members graced OAU with sticks, cutlass and other weapons to threaten the peace of students, a display which has never been our culture.
“Based on investigation, it was proven that the president had called a special meeting which resulted in brouhaha and the suspected cult members suddenly stormed the OAU campus through the union bus to harass students who challenged the constitutional backing of the meeting.
“Based on preponderance arguments and deliberations, the House resolved through a motion that he (Edward Ibukun) be impeached through the provision of the constitution on the account of sponsoring cult-like activities on the OAU campus.”
