Read Time:50 Second

Mbata, Umuchima Village, in the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, is tense as troops fight to free militants who are supposedly hidden in the nearby bushes.

The militants are thought to have set up a base close to a river at the Abia/Imo state boundary in Mbaise, and more than 15 Hilux trucks and armoured vehicles have been sent in to comb the bushes and neutralise them, according to military sources.

“The operation to dislodge the hoodlums started in the morning. We have secured the junctions leading to and from the village and have engaged the gunmen in the surrounding bushes,” the source disclosed.

The confrontation has sparked panic among residents, prompting many to flee to safer locations.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Lt. Innocent Omale, were unsuccessful.

Security operations in the area are ongoing as authorities work to restore calm and order.
