RIVERS COMMUNITY ABANDONED AS CULTISTS KILL 19 RESIDENTS
At least 19 individuals are feared dead following a renewed cult clash in Obelle Community, Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Sunday.
The violent incident has caused widespread panic, prompting many residents to flee the area in search of safety.
This comes just days after a similar attack on Wednesday, when unidentified gunmen, believed to be members of a cult group, stormed the community and killed seven people.
While the community was still grappling with the aftermath of that attack, the two rival cult groups resumed their violent struggle for dominance on Sunday morning, ending a period of relative calm that had lasted more than two years.
It was reported that the clash on Sunday was between the Deybam and Icelanders cult groups.
According to our correspondent, following the killings on Wednesday, the group whose members were killed on Sunday launched an attack on Obelle community, targeting relatives of those believed to be involved in the earlier killing of seven people.
A local source, who identified himself as Kingsley, claimed that the rival group arrived while the group who had lost members on Wednesday was carrying out their operations.
