‎The Adeyemi ruling house of the Anikilaya dynasty has raised objections over its exclusion from the Anikilaya ruling house, one of the families eligible to produce candidates for the stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland.

‎The development comes in the wake of the demise of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away last month.

‎In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by Adedeji Ademola Adeyemi, the family alleged that some members of the Anikilaya ruling house had deliberately distorted history by removing the Adeyemis from the family lineage.

‎According to Adeyemi, Adeyemi Anikilaya was the eldest son of the late Oba Anikilaya Saagun, while Ogbagba and Ademolu were his younger brothers. He added that Prince Ademola Aiyegbajeje Adeyemi was first considered for the Awujale stool in 1959 but declined the offer, paving the way for his brother, Prince Mubashiru Adedipupo Adeyemi, whose son, Sikiru Kayode Adetona, was crowned Awujale in 1960.

‎The family rejected claims that the headship of the dynasty should go to the second-born, while also dismissing the inclusion of Mabadeje, Adekoya Ofirigidi, and Adeire Adeewu, whom they described as “unknown alleged children” of the late Oba Anikilaya Saagun Figbajoye, who reigned in 1821.

‎“The Adeyemi ruling house reiterates that we remain descendants of Adeyemi Anikilaya, the eldest son of the late Oba Anikilaya Saagun Figbajoye. Any contrary submissions by misguided family members are false and inconsequential,” the statement read.

‎The family urged the public to disregard contrary claims, maintaining its rightful place within the Anikilaya dynasty in the Awujale succession process.
