AKWA IBOM POLICE RESCUE 20 GHANAIANS TRAFFICKED TO UYO

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have rescued 20 Ghanaian nationals trafficked into Uyo Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, comprising 10 males and 10 females, were freed from a compound in Obio Etoi village, Uyo, following a joint operation carried out after a formal request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday. She said the rescue operation, based on credible intelligence, was conducted around 4:17 pm on Monday, August 18, 2025.

“On August 18, 2025, operatives of the Command successfully rescued 20 Ghanaians trafficked to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The victims, made up of 10 males and 10 females, were rescued from a compound in Obio Etoi village after a joint operation following a request for assistance from the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL,” the statement read.

DSP John noted that the victims appeared disoriented and unable to provide useful information, raising suspicions they might have been hypnotised.

She assured that investigations are ongoing and updates will be provided as more details emerge.
