The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has inaugurated mobile courts to conduct instant trials for motorists and tricycle operators caught violating traffic lights within the Kano metropolis.
The initiative, launched on Tuesday, follows Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive to strengthen traffic law enforcement and improve road safety.
KAROTA Managing Director, Faisal Mahmud Kabir, said the state government had invested heavily in installing solar-powered traffic lights across the city and urged road users to comply with regulations.
“From today, any vehicle owner caught violating traffic lights will be apprehended by KAROTA officials and other security personnel for on-the-spot trial in our mobile courts,” Kabir warned.

He stressed that the mobile courts are designed to safeguard lives and property, not to intimidate motorists.
“These courts are not meant to harass or intimidate anyone. Our primary goal is to protect lives and ensure smooth traffic flow,” he explained.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command has pledged its support for the initiative, assuring collaboration with KAROTA in apprehending offenders and enforcing traffic rules.
