The scheduled arraignment of Omoyele Sowore and online media platform Sahara Reporters at the Federal High Court, Abuja, was on Wednesday stalled following the absence of the second defendant.

Sowore, a rights activist and publisher, is facing newly filed charges of forgery, defamation, and alleged incitement to mutiny. The matter was listed for arraignment before Justice Emeka Nwite.

However, proceedings could not go on after the court was informed that Sahara Reporters had not been served with the summons. The prosecution explained that attempts to serve the media outfit through substituted means via newspaper publication had not been successful, as the process was not yet completed.

Justice Nwite consequently adjourned the matter until September 15 for arraignment.

Speaking with journalists after the session, Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, vowed to challenge the competence of the charges, describing them as “frivolous and unjustified.”
