Nigeria’s oil production has reached a new six-month peak, averaging 1.71 million barrels per day in July 2025, as reported by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

This increase represents a 9.9 percent year-over-year rise, bringing the nation nearer to its budgetary and OPEC production objectives.

The NUPRC revealed the most recent statistics on Thursday via its X platform, indicating that the total output consists of 1.507 million bpd of crude oil and 204,864 bpd of condensates.

This denotes a consistent increase from the 1.69 million bpd recorded in June 2025 and a significant enhancement from the 1.56 million bpd produced in July of the prior year. The Commission attributes this favorable trend to a combination of reinforced security measures and enhanced operational efficiencies throughout the upstream value chain.

The statement articulated, “Although Nigeria’s oil output has reached a six-month peak with over 1.7 million barrels being produced daily, we at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) are still pursuing avenues to broaden the frontiers of energy production. We intend to accomplish this by fostering an enabling environment that will attract new investments and motivate existing investors to expand. In this regard, the Commission’s Chief Executive, NUPRC, Engineer Gbenga Komolafe, hosted the President of Exploration and Production at Total Energies, Nicolas Terraz, along with his team at the NUPRC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. The message is unequivocal: Nigeria is open for business. ”

The NUPRC emphasized its initiatives, stating that the increase in production is a direct outcome of these strategic interventions.

“We have remained steadfast in our dedication to implementing a robust regulatory framework,” the statement declared, “and this continuous rise in production is a testament to the effectiveness of our efforts to combat crude oil theft and secure a more stable operating environment for all industry participants. ”

The Commission’s Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, has reiterated the government’s ambition of escalating production to 2.1 million bpd by 2026.

The current figures indicate a positive trajectory toward fulfilling that objective, positioning Nigeria as a more competitive entity in the global oil and gas sector.

The production report also underscored a strong performance from various crude oil terminals. The Forcados terminal recorded the highest output in July with 9.04 million barrels, while the Bonny terminal experienced a significant 12.7 percent increase in production relative to the preceding month.
