ABIA GOVT DEBUNKS REPORT OF WORKERS’ DEATH AT ARIARIA MARKET SITE
The Abia State Government has dismissed claims that five workers died at the ongoing Ariaria International Market remodelling site in Aba.
Reacting to the viral report on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, described the story as completely false and urged residents to ignore it.
According to Kanu, no lives were lost at the site, and the government remains committed to ensuring the safety of every worker involved in the project.
He stressed that the Ariaria Market remodelling is progressing smoothly under strict safety guidelines, adding that spreading fake news could cause unnecessary panic and distract from the state’s development goals.

The commissioner also assured traders and residents that Governor Alex Otti’s administration is focused on turning Ariaria into a modern, world-class market that will boost business and improve the city’s outlook.
Ariaria International Market, often called the “Japan of Africa,” is one of Abia’s busiest commercial centres and a major hub for locally made goods.
