Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have confiscated 108.8 kg of cannabis and apprehended a key trafficker along the Kabba-Obajana road connecting Ekiti and Kogi, the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday in Lokoja.

“The 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has achieved a major success in combating banditry and drug trafficking in Kogi, seizing a large consignment of Cannabis sativa being transported from Ekiti State to Obajana,” he said.

“The operation took place on Monday when troops deployed to the Agbede Response Area carried out a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU.

“The vehicle, driven by the suspect, was also found displaying a branded police hat and belt on the dashboard, which raised further suspicion.

“Upon a thorough search, 10 sacks of Cannabis sativa weighing 108.8 kg were discovered hidden in the car.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that large-scale drug trafficking of this nature not only finances criminal networks but also fuels activities that often escalate into banditry in the state and neighboring areas,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the suspect and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Kogi Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action.

Abdullahi reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting national efforts to eradicate drug trafficking, curb factors enabling banditry, enhance public safety, and ensure a secure environment for all citizens.”
