Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of business mogul and industrialist Otunba Adekunle Ojora, describing the loss as “painful” and noting that his place would be difficult to fill both within his family and across the nation.

In a tribute released Wednesday through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo eulogised the late Ojora as an “amiable and notable Nigerian” whose lifetime of integrity, wisdom, and dedication left a lasting legacy.

“By his death, the country has lost a notable captain of industry and commerce, but his memory endures through his landmark contributions to the development of the South-West and Nigeria at large,” Obasanjo stated.

He further described Ojora as a patriot, frontline indigenous industrialist, accomplished administrator, tireless philanthropist, and role model whose achievements inspired generations of entrepreneurs and business leaders. Obasanjo also highlighted Ojora’s dedication to mentoring young people and his unwavering support for family and community.

Otunba Ojora, who passed at the age of 93, was highly decorated both nationally and internationally. His honours included Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR, 1982), Officer of the Order of Commendatore of Italy (1972), Freedom of the City of London (1989), Grand Uffiale Al Merito Della Republica Italiana (1992), and Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver of Austria. Locally, he was conferred with traditional titles including Otunba of Lagos (1979) and Lisa of Ife (1981).

Obasanjo described Ojora as a devout Muslim, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose guidance, counsel, and presence enriched the lives of family, friends, and the wider community. He extended heartfelt condolences to Ojora’s wife, Erelu Ojuolape Ojora, and the Ojora and Adele royal families, praying for fortitude in bearing the great loss.

“The finality of Otunba Adekunle Ojora is painful, especially as he would still have had much to contribute to his family, his community, and the nation, but we can draw solace that he lived a responsible and caring life. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Obasanjo concluded.
