Real Madrid have been boosted by the return of Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham ahead of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 second-leg clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday, Mbappé, 27, has been sidelined since February 21 after suffering a left knee sprain during Madrid’s La Liga match against Osasuna.

His return provides a significant boost to Madrid’s attacking options, offering manager Alvaro Arbeloa added strength ahead of the crucial encounter.

Bellingham, 22, has also been out of action since February 1 after sustaining a hamstring injury in a league match against Rayo Vallecano. Initially expected to be sidelined for about four weeks, the injury later raised concerns over his availability for England’s international friendlies against Uruguay national football team and Japan national football team.

Real Madrid head into the match with a commanding 3–0 advantage from the first leg played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

In that encounter, Federico Valverde netted a first-half hat-trick to put Madrid firmly in control, while Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a penalty from Vinícius Júnior in the second half, preventing the Spanish giants from extending their lead further.

The return of Mbappé and Bellingham is expected to strengthen Madrid’s chances as they aim to secure qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals, while Manchester City will be seeking to overturn the deficit in what promises to be a high-intensity contest in Manchester. ⚽
