Dapo Abiodun has undergone screening by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the party’s primaries for the Ogun East Senatorial District.

The development was disclosed in a Facebook post by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo.

According to the statement, the screening exercise was conducted on Friday by the APC National Working Committee Screening Committee at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking after the exercise, Abiodun said his aspiration to represent Ogun East in the Senate was driven by a desire to deepen development and provide effective representation for the people of the district.

“I reaffirm my commitment to quality representation, grassroots development, economic growth, and sustained progress for the people of Ogun East Senatorial District,” the governor stated.

He also appreciated party leaders and stakeholders for their continued support and confidence in his ambition.

“I appreciate the leadership and stakeholders of our great party for their continued confidence in my aspiration. I remain committed to the ideals and progressive vision of the APC,” he added.

The statement noted that the screening formed part of the APC’s internal procedures for aspirants seeking elective offices on the party’s platform.

Abiodun reportedly appeared before the committee as an aspirant for the Ogun East Senatorial seat and assured members of his readiness to serve with “responsibility, experience and integrity.”

The governor’s screening comes days after he was reportedly adopted as the consensus candidate for the Ogun East senatorial race during a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC in Ijebu-Ode.

At the meeting, party leaders, including former senator Lekan Mustapha, were said to have endorsed Abiodun’s aspiration, citing his experience and leadership capacity.

“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha reportedly said during the meeting.

The stakeholders’ gathering also attracted former and serving lawmakers, councillors, youth groups and women groups from across local government areas in Ogun East.

Abiodun had earlier submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, officially signalling his intention to transition from the executive arm of government to the legislature after completing his tenure as governor.

The governor has repeatedly stated that his administration remains focused on infrastructure development, education, agriculture and social welfare under its development agenda.

“We have been open, transparent, inclusive and accountable. We will not rest on our oars,” Abiodun had said during his earlier declaration.
