The Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board have launched investigations into an alleged cyber breach that reportedly compromised computer systems during the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at the College of Education, Warri.

According to authorities, the incident involved unauthorized access to students’ computers during the live examination, although the physical examination hall itself was not breached.

Preliminary findings indicated that a sophisticated syndicate allegedly used remote access tools and technology-assisted methods to infiltrate the examination systems in an attempt to compromise the integrity of the examination process.

Security agencies disclosed that intelligence-led operations and digital forensic investigations were immediately deployed following the discovery of the breach.

The police confirmed that three suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody while investigations continue.

Authorities also revealed that additional examination centres had been flagged over suspected irregularities linked to the same operation.

As part of ongoing investigations, JAMB said it had withdrawn results from the affected centres pending the outcome of the probe.

The examination body further stated that candidates affected by the development would be rescheduled for a mop-up examination to ensure that students who participated honestly are not unfairly disadvantaged.

Officials stressed the need to protect the credibility of examinations that determine the academic future of millions of Nigerian students.

The police also issued a warning to individuals or groups allegedly involved in examination malpractice and cyber-related fraud, stating that surveillance and monitoring had been intensified across examination centres and digital platforms nationwide.

Authorities maintained that anyone found attempting to undermine the integrity of the country’s educational system would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
