AEDC ANNOUNCES TWO-DAY POWER OUTAGE IN PARTS OF ABUJA

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has announced a planned two-day power outage affecting residents in Lugbe, Airport Road, Gaduwa and other parts of Abuja.
The electricity distribution company disclosed the development in a notice shared on its verified X account on Friday.
According to AEDC, the temporary outage is scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday following a request by the Federal Capital Development Authority.
The company explained that the exercise is necessary to enable the relocation of critical electricity infrastructure along the 33kV feeders H21 and H23, as well as the 11kV feeder H1A located within the Gaduwa District.
AEDC added that the relocation work is part of ongoing road construction projects being carried out in the overriding public interest.
The company noted that electricity supply to the affected areas would be temporarily disrupted during the exercise but assured customers that power would be restored immediately after completion of the work.
“Supply will be restored upon completion of the exercise. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding,” the company stated.
Nigeria’s electricity sector has continued to face persistent challenges, including frequent national grid collapses, low power generation capacity and periodic maintenance outages affecting households and businesses across the country.
In recent months, the country has recorded multiple nationwide blackouts, including two separate national grid collapses reported earlier in 2026.
