ABDUCTED FUTO STUDENTS REGAIN FREEDOM — MANAGEMENT

The two female students abducted from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, during the gruesome killing of a branch bank manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday, have regained their freedom.

The University Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, confirmed the students’ release in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday.

According to him, the two students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, has also visited the students and interacted with them.

The PRO said the university management commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their prompt intervention.

He further assured members of the university community that the institution was safe.

The statement read, “the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during the gruesome killing of a branch bank Manager, Mr Ossy, last Sunday.

“The management assures students, staff, parents, and the University community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

“Members of the University community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and report any suspicious activity”, the statement read.

Recall that an Owerri-based branch manager of Polaris Bank was gunned down by gunmen on Sunday within the university campus when he attempted to resist being kidnapped.

The banker had reportedly gone to drop off his children at the university when the incident occurred.
