AC Milan have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the signing of forward Christopher Nkunku in a deal worth £36m, including add-ons.

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old, who has been cleared to travel for his medical, is set to accept a pay cut to complete a five-year contract with the Italian giants.

“Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan, here we go! Deal verbally agreed in principle between the clubs.

“AC Milan and Chelsea are set to prepare documents today, fee will be in the region of €42m with add-ons.

“Nkunku said yes to 5 year contract yesterday, as revealed.”

Chelsea have also inserted a sell-on clause in the agreement, bringing an end to Nkunku’s two-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

The transfer is expected to trigger further moves at Chelsea, with talks progressing over a potential deal for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

In addition, striker Nicolas Jackson is in negotiations with Bayern Munich over an initial loan deal that could include an obligation to buy.

Nkunku’s departure will also help Chelsea strengthen their financial position, as the club can now claim a profit in this transfer window.

They have reportedly raised a league-high £309m through player sales, compared with about £277m spent on signings.

This financial balancing act is crucial for Chelsea, who were fined €31m (£26.7m) by UEFA and ordered to maintain a “positive transfer balance” this summer to be eligible to register new players for the Champions League.

Nkunku, who arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023 for around £52m, recorded 18 goals and five assists in 62 appearances for the Blues.

The France international leaves having played a key part in Chelsea’s triumphs in both the Club World Cup and the Conference League earlier this year.
