Olatunji Disu, who is currently acting as the inspector–general of police, is at the State House for his first official meeting with President Bola Tinubu since he took on the role.
He arrived at the Presidential Villa around 3 pm, preparing for a short ceremony where he will officially receive his new rank. A statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said Tinubu accepted Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation after he submitted a letter citing “pressing family issues”.
After the ceremony, there will be another event at the police headquarters in Abuja where Egbetokun, the outgoing IGP, will take part.
Following the Police Act 2020, Tinubu is also expected to hold a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to officially review Disu’s appointment.
Once this is done, his name will be sent to the senate for approval.
Until his latest appointment, Disu was the assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) of the force criminal investigation department (FCID) annex, Alagbon, Lagos state.
Since joining the force in 1992, he has served in key leadership roles nationwide, including as commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, head of the intelligence response team, commissioner of police in Rivers state, and AIG in charge of the special protection unit at the Federal Capital Territory.
