The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to account for the ₦10 billion reportedly ordered for Ebola emergency preparedness, following the confirmation of a case in Abuja.

The council’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, made the demand in a statement issued on Friday, October 23, 2026, while criticising the All Progressives Congress (APC) for focusing on the similarity between the names “Bola” and “Ebola” instead of addressing questions about the funds.

Shaibu said the Presidency announced on June 9 that Tinubu had ordered the immediate release of ₦10 billion for Ebola preparedness, but the APC had subsequently claimed that the money remained untouched.

He described the claim as contradictory and called on the government to clarify whether the funds had been released and, if so, where they were being held and why they had not been utilised.

“Was the money released or was it not?” Shaibu asked, demanding the publication of release documents, account records and expenditure reports from the relevant task force.

He added that political exchanges would not resolve concerns over the management of funds earmarked for emergency preparedness.

The ADC campaign council also questioned the timeline of the government’s response to the confirmed Ebola case, citing reports that the patient developed symptoms on October 7, sought treatment at a private facility on October 11 and received laboratory confirmation on October 20.

Shaibu asked when Ebola was first suspected, when public health authorities were alerted, when testing was ordered and when contact tracing commenced.

He also challenged the government to provide details of the surveillance system it said had alerted authorities to the case, including the agency involved, the date of the alert and the actions taken.

The statement noted that the 44 identified contacts required adequate monitoring and protection, adding that health workers involved in treatment and contact tracing needed the necessary equipment and resources.

Shaibu said questioning the government’s preparedness should not be interpreted as an attack on health workers, insisting that the administration should provide evidence of its response and the management of the emergency funds.

The ADC campaign council further urged the government to clarify any proposed restrictions affecting political campaigns or voting during the health emergency.

It called for the publication of any such proposals, their medical justification and the advice of relevant health authorities, warning against the use of public health measures for political purposes.

“The President and the APC owe the country answers, not ‘Bola-Ebola’ tales,” Shaibu said, urging the government to account for the funds, explain its response timeline and ensure the protection of health workers and contacts of the confirmed case.

The statement followed a public exchange between the APC and the ADC over the government’s Ebola preparedness and the handling of the emergency response.
