The family of the late Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has announced burial arrangements for the Yoruba leader, who died at the age of 100.
In a statement signed by Dr Taiwo O. Fasoranti on behalf of the family, a Christian wake-keeping service will hold on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at 4 p.m. at the deceased’s residence within the Omolere Nursery and Primary School Compound.
The funeral service and interment are scheduled for Thursday, December 17, at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, Ondo State, beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery, while a reception will take place at his residence afterwards.
The family also announced an outing and thanksgiving service for Sunday, December 20, at 10 a.m. at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure.
It called on well-wishers to offer prayers and attend the ceremonies as the family honours the memory of the late elder statesman.
Fasoranti’s death was announced by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, October 20. The governor described him as a revered elder statesman whose life was dedicated to service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
Fasoranti, who celebrated his 100th birthday in May, was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and a leading voice in Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.
President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders paid tributes following his death, recognising his contributions to public service, democratic governance and the development of the Yoruba people.
