Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has said that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, could leave the party if their political expectations are not met.
Ahmad made the remark in a post on his verified X account, stating that both Obi and Kwankwaso view the NDC mainly as a platform for the 2027 general elections.
He noted that differences in political goals and timelines could make it difficult for the ambitions of the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, to align with those of Obi and Kwankwaso over the long term.
According to Ahmad, Obi and Kwankwaso would likely seek another political platform ahead of the 2031 elections if they fail to achieve their objectives within the NDC.
He argued that Dickson is focused on building a strong and enduring political structure rather than pursuing a short-term electoral alliance.
“From my understanding, Dickson is working toward establishing a formidable political platform that could strengthen his chances of contesting for the presidency in 2031 or beyond,” Ahmad wrote.
