African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against attempting to rig the 2027 presidential election.

Amaechi issued the warning while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he expressed concern over the level of hardship and dissatisfaction among Nigerians.

The former Rivers State governor said there could be serious consequences if the 2027 election is manipulated, stressing that Nigerians are already struggling with hunger and economic hardship.

According to him, Tinubu would not rig the election because doing so could threaten the continued existence of the country.

Amaechi said Nigerians were more concerned about having access to food and feeling the impact of government policies, particularly following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

He questioned what had happened to the funds saved from the subsidy removal, asking where the money was and why Nigerians were yet to feel its impact.

The former Minister of Transportation also said he had no personal hatred for Tinubu, stressing that he loves the President but wants him to improve the situation in the country.

Amaechi further criticised Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, describing him as dishonest and accusing him of making untrue statements.

He recalled that he was still in secondary school when Onanuga began working with Newswatch, adding that he would ordinarily address him as “Dede,” meaning an elder, in accordance with his tradition.

Amaechi, however, said elders who publicly conduct themselves improperly could attract criticism from younger people, adding that he believed Onanuga was not telling the truth.
