A suspected motorcycle thief, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was burnt to death by an angry mob at the main gate of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State.

The incident occurred on Monday after the suspect allegedly escaped from the hospital’s emergency unit, where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during an earlier mob assault.

Witnesses said two suspected motorcycle thieves were caught on the hospital premises while allegedly attempting to steal motorcycles. One reportedly escaped, while the other was beaten by youths before being taken to the hospital for treatment.

The injured suspect later fled from the emergency ward but was reportedly tracked down after the youths were alerted.

An eyewitness said the suspect was recaptured, beaten again, dragged to the hospital gate and set ablaze.

A video circulating on social media shows the bloodstained suspect, dressed in a white shirt, being dragged by a crowd before being set on fire.

As of the time of filing this report, the Jigawa State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
