APC MOCKS AMAECHI OVER CLAIM HE COULDN’T AFFORD MOTHER’S MEDICATION

The All Progressives Congress has criticised the African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his claim that he was unable to afford medication for his late mother, describing the former Rivers State governor as overly dependent on public office.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said Amaechi had benefited from public office for decades but allegedly became financially distressed only three years after leaving government.
The ruling party also accused the former governor of seeking the ADC vice-presidential ticket in 2027 to continue what it described as his dependence on public resources.
The APC said, “The presidency is not a soup kitchen” for Amaechi.

The party began its statement by offering condolences over the death of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, while also making sarcastic remarks about the former governor’s financial situation.
The APC noted that Amaechi had previously served as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of the state and two-term Minister of Transportation, as well as a presidential aspirant.
The party questioned how someone with such an extensive public service record could allegedly struggle to afford medication for himself and his family after leaving office.
It also referred to previous comments attributed to Amaechi in which he reportedly said he had become financially constrained and that his wife was supporting him.
The APC argued that Amaechi’s statements raised questions about his suitability for the vice-presidential position.
The party further accused him of relying on public office for his livelihood and suggested that he should seek employment outside politics.
“The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice president come 2027 so he can continue… and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to,” the APC said.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi.”
Amaechi, while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, criticised President Bola Tinubu’s policies, blaming them for the economic hardship in the country.
He also alleged that the difficult economic situation contributed to his inability to afford medication for his mother, who recently died following a prolonged illness.
