Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Army disclosed in a post on its X handle on Saturday that the suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was apprehended on September 12, 2026, at Obaretin Community during a targeted operation to disrupt criminal activities and secure major transportation routes.

According to the Army, the operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Other items recovered from the suspect included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.

The Army said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance security along major routes in the state.

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in the custody of the troops for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to determine any links to other criminal networks and possible involvement in kidnapping incidents along the route.

The Nigerian Army stated that it remains focused on denying criminals freedom of action and ensuring the safety of communities and critical transportation corridors in Edo State through sustained operations with other security agencies.
