ATIKU CRIES OUT OVER ALLEGED BREACH OF PRIVATE BANKING RECORDS

Former Vice President and 2027 presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over an alleged breach of his private banking information after an unidentified individual reportedly transferred money into one of his personal bank accounts.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the transaction was made into a private account held with a leading commercial bank in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the transfer carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” despite the fact that neither Atiku nor his campaign team had requested, authorised or had any prior knowledge of the payment.
The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate described the incident as troubling, stressing that the account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available.
He questioned how an unknown individual obtained access to the confidential account information, warning that the incident raises serious concerns about the security of Nigerians’ financial data.
“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” the statement read.
Atiku further alleged that the information may have been leaked by individuals with privileged access to sensitive banking records, warning that such breaches could expose account holders to threats from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain described the incident as one of several suspicious developments ahead of the 2027 general elections and urged security agencies to investigate the matter.
He also dismissed what he described as attempts to tarnish his reputation, insisting that he remains committed to offering credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
