BAUCHI POLICE ARREST TWO OVER ALLEGED ASSAULT ON OFFICERS

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from performing their lawful duties during an enforcement operation in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname was not disclosed, and Yunana Ali, were arrested at about 9:00 a.m. on October 3, 2026, by operatives of the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team along Yelwa Road, Bauchi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the officers were conducting routine enforcement under Operation Velvet when they stopped a vehicle driven by Friday and requested its particulars.

According to Habib, the suspects allegedly refused to comply with the officers’ request and became aggressive, resulting in a physical confrontation during which the patrol officers were assaulted.

He added that one of the suspects allegedly tore the uniform of an Inspector of Police during the incident.

The suspects were subsequently overpowered and taken to the ‘E’ Division, where investigations into the incident have commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged assault, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine lawful policing efforts.

Aliyu warned that the command would not tolerate attacks on police officers carrying out their legitimate duties, urging members of the public to channel complaints against police actions through lawful means.

The command said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The police also urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with officers during routine checks and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
