BOKO HARAM IED BLAST KILLS MOTORCYCLIST ALONG NIGER-KOGI BORDER

A motorcyclist identified as Usman Machiya has been killed after his Bajaj motorcycle reportedly triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred at about 4pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, as Machiya, a resident of Gyada village, was travelling towards Baturen-Daji in the Babanna District.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, Machiya was riding from Gyada village to Baturen-Daji when he encountered the suspected explosive device planted along the route.
Makama said the device detonated upon contact, killing the motorcyclist instantly.
The incident was subsequently reported to security authorities, while troops at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Babanna were alerted.
Other security agencies in the area were also placed on red alert after the explosion.
Security personnel have since heightened surveillance along the route and are checking the area for possible additional explosive devices.
