THE WORLD HAS LOST A GIANT – NIGERIAN CELEBRITIES MOURN OGOGO’S DEATH

Nigerian celebrities have continued to mourn the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following the announcement of his passing on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The actor reportedly died after battling stage 4 cancer. His death came just two days after colleagues and admirers gathered to offer special prayers for him amid concerns over his health.

Following news of his passing, tributes have continued to pour in from Nigerians, particularly fellow actors and other personalities in the entertainment industry.

Many took to social media to express their grief, celebrate Ogogo’s contributions to the Nigerian film industry and pay tribute to his legacy as a veteran actor.

His colleagues described his death as a major loss to the entertainment industry, recalling his years of dedication, professionalism and impact on the Yoruba movie industry.

The outpouring of tributes reflects the significant place Ogogo occupied in Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, with fans and colleagues mourning the loss of a respected figure whose career spanned several decades.

Actress Bimbo Oshin, in an Instagram post, said, “The world lost a giant today.

“Haa!!!! Olorun oooo. The world lost a giant today. Sir T, your legacy will never die. A true legend has left us. May Allah forgive you all your sins.”

Mr Latin, the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, TAMPAN, wrote, “End of an era. today, we mourn the passing of a great icon, a legend and a father to many. Ogogo lived a remarkable life, touched countless hearts and left an indelible mark on our industry and culture.

“May his legacy live on forever, and may God grant his family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss. Rest in peace, Ogogo. Your era may have ended, but your legacy will never die,” he wrote.

Veteran actor Adebayo Salami wrote, “Action por bi Ogogo!!! The action has ended, the actor is no more. This hits home, this hits super hard.

“Omo kulodo… Erin wo!!! May Allah accept your return, our dearest Ogogo.”

Popular Islamic singer Saoty Arewa wrote, “May Almighty Allah accept your return.”

Muyiwa Ademola wrote, “Rest Well Sir T. OGOGO omo kulodo! One of The Biggest the Nigerian Film Industry ever produced! It is indeed the end of an era. May The Almighty comfort all you left behind.

“No one leaves here alive!”

Sharing his picture on her Instagram Story, Funke Akindele wrote, “Rest in peace Sir T! Your impact in the industry will never be forgotten. Thank you for the legacy you leave behind.”

Iyabo Ojo also wrote, “This hits differently. The industry lost a legend, but heaven gained an angel. My deepest condolences to his entire family. You were a great man, my Boss. Your legacy will never die.

“Adieu, o. Till we meet again.”
