The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to invalidate the emergence of Abubakar Malami, SAN, as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Kebbi State.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Justice M. G. Umar ruled that the plaintiff, Abdulrazak Isa Iko, failed to establish that he participated in the party’s primary election and therefore lacked the legal standing to challenge the outcome of the process.
The court consequently dismissed the suit for lacking merit and substance, allowing Malami’s candidacy to remain valid ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Justice Umar held that only individuals with the requisite legal standing can challenge the conduct or outcome of a political party’s primary election.
The ruling effectively removes a major legal obstacle against Malami’s candidacy, paving the way for the ADC flag bearer to continue preparations for the electoral contest.
