WIKE SETS DECEMBER DEADLINE FOR GOODLUCK JONATHAN WAY, OTHER ROADS

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the long-abandoned Inner Southern Expressway, also known as Goodluck Jonathan Way, will be completed and delivered by December.
Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja after inspecting the project alongside the ongoing construction of the service carriageways of the Southern Parkway in Gaduwa District.
He explained that the 10-kilometre road, awarded in December 2014, stretches from the Southern Parkway to Ring Road II at Galadimawa and includes five bridges.
According to the minister, the project is one of the few inherited from previous administrations that has yet to be completed under President Bola Tinubu’s government, alongside the Apo-Karshi Road.
He said the contractor is expected to complete the remaining six kilometres of the road and hand it over by the end of December, subject to the release of adequate funding.
Describing the project as critical to the development of the FCT, Wike said discussions were ongoing with the Ministry of Finance to secure the funds needed to ensure its timely completion.
He added that the completion of the Goodluck Jonathan Way and the nearly completed Apo-Karshi Road would fulfil President Tinubu’s pledge to complete inherited projects awarded between 2010 and 2023, thereby reducing the number of abandoned projects across the capital.
The minister also inspected work on the two service carriageways of the Southern Parkway, which extends from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Gaduwa District to Ring Road II.
He noted that the project, inaugurated during activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office, is progressing as scheduled, expressing optimism that the contractor would meet the December completion deadline.
Commenting on the recent reconciliation with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike said there was “no sin in politics,” adding that admitting mistakes and embracing reconciliation was a positive development.
He said Fubara’s return to the political family that brought him to power was inevitable and would strengthen support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
