The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members who were rescued on Wednesday have arrived in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The victims are currently at the state headquarters of the Department of State Services in Aleshinloye, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Checks revealed that only representatives of the victims’ parents were allowed access to the DSS premises, while others remained outside.
The 20 prospective corps members were among 30 graduates travelling in two buses from Oyo State to orientation camps in Abia State when they were abducted.
The remaining 10 passengers reportedly escaped through the bush during the attack.
The victims regained their freedom seven days after they were abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Imo State.
The abductors initially demanded N50 million for each victim, amounting to N1 billion, before reportedly reducing the ransom to N5 million per person, totalling N100 million.
The Managing Director of Uko Akwa Ibom Motors Nigeria Limited, Isiah Akpan, had confirmed the ransom demand.
Before the victims were released, their parents had on Saturday visited the private residence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, alongside the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, and the Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Adeyeri, seeking intervention for their release.
Following the victims’ release, the Olubadan confirmed that the abducted graduates had regained their freedom.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, Ladoja said Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, confirmed the release during a telephone conversation at about 5pm.
“The kidnapped graduates have been released. The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, confirmed this in a telephone conversation at about 5.00pm,” the Olubadan said.
