Former Miss South Africa contestant and Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 winner, Chidimma Adetshina, has alleged that she was “treated unfairly and targeted” in South Africa amid an ongoing legal dispute over her citizenship and possible deportation.

Adetshina made the comments in a video shared by South African television station eNCA on X after the Cape Town Regional Court adjourned her case on Wednesday.

She maintained that she was born in South Africa and had followed the appropriate legal procedures to establish her citizenship status.

According to her, despite the challenges she has faced, she would not respond with anger but would continue to rely on the rule of law.

Adetshina also urged South Africans to reject xenophobia and misinformation, stressing that people should be treated according to their legal status and citizenship.

She said South Africa was governed by the rule of law and called for the principles of Ubuntu to guide the handling of the matter.

The court adjourned the case until February 27, 2027. Adetshina is challenging efforts to detain her pending deportation proceedings.

She has consistently maintained that she was born in Soweto, South Africa, and has initiated the appropriate legal process to determine her citizenship status.

Adetshina said she would respect the outcome of the legal proceedings, adding that she had complied with all relevant legal processes throughout the controversy.

She also expressed appreciation to her family, friends, supporters and legal team for standing by her during the dispute.
