The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted three exotic cars and a range of contraband goods with a total duty paid value (DPV) of over N1.4 billion.

Among the seized vehicles is a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost valued at N905 million, a 2014 4Matic Mercedes-Benz worth N21.4 million, and a 2018 Honda Accord valued at N32.2 million.

Other contraband confiscated within the period under review included 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice equivalent to over seven truckloads 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa (marijuana), and 105 used tyres. The seizures brought the DPV of all confiscated items to N1,401,531,923.95.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this during a press briefing held at Idiroko on Thursday. He said the command remains committed to fighting smuggling and resisting the “antics of recalcitrant economic saboteurs undermining Nigeria’s economy and security.”

Otunla further revealed that the command generated N45,054,191 in revenue for July 2025, marking a 27.47% increase compared to N35,327,852 recorded in July 2024. He attributed the growth to enhanced compliance, improved border monitoring, and stronger stakeholder engagement.

In line with inter-agency collaboration, the seized illicit drugs were handed over to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and action.

Sounding a stern warning to smugglers, Otunla declared: “We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you.”

He commended officers of the command, security agencies, and patriotic border community members for their resilience, cooperation, and intelligence support in the fight against smuggling.
