Tension erupted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, on Thursday as the institution began enforcing its ban on the popular post-examination “signing off” celebration among final-year students.

In a video shared by Facebook user, Okwa C. Ifugo, two female students were seen being sent out of a campus building for wearing shirts scribbled with marker inscriptions, a common feature of the tradition.

The development followed a directive issued on Tuesday by the university management, signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, which outlawed the practice. The circular described the activity as one that frequently results in chaos, violence, and disruption of normal academic routines.

The enforcement move has since stirred mixed reactions among students, with many expressing concerns over the clampdown on what they regard as a long-standing campus culture.
