The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has introduced stricter security measures following the killing of a non-student on its campus.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olowo Samuel, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists at the university’s administrative building. He said the incident, which occurred in a bush behind the school and was linked to a money dispute, prompted the engagement of armed security personnel and the restriction of vehicular access for students and visitors without proper identification.
According to him, the university learned that the victim was killed by his peers, and the case was promptly reported to the police, who arrested some suspects.
“After thorough deliberations, the management decided to stop students and unauthorised visitors from bringing vehicles into the school to maintain peace and order. The governing council of the school approved the decision, and peace has finally returned to the campus,” Prof. Samuel stated.
He noted that unruly youths had previously driven onto campus to intimidate security guards, making armed reinforcement necessary.
Prof. Samuel further revealed that the relative peace enjoyed under the current administration had been recognised nationally, with the Edo Foundation Inc. naming AAU the winner of the Niger Delta Award for the Most Peaceful Educational Institution in Nigeria. He was also honoured with the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award for his leadership and commitment to peace, excellence, and growth.
