Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hinted that he may take a break from music in the future.

Speaking during an appearance on The Uncut Podcast, the singer said he does not plan to remain in the spotlight at 40 while competing with artistes in their 20s.

Davido clarified that his remarks should not be interpreted as suggesting that established musicians should retire from the industry.

He cited American rapper Jay-Z as an example of an artiste who took a break from music and continued to thrive.

According to Davido, his established catalogue would allow him to step away from music for several years and still return to significant commercial success.

He said he could take a 10-year break and still headline a major arena tour because of the strength of his existing body of work.

The 33-year-old singer also noted that music should provide artistes with opportunities to explore other ventures beyond recording and performing.

He emphasised that artistes should be able to use their music careers as a platform to branch into other areas.
