EDO DEPUTY GOVERNOR REWARDS NIGERIA’S FOURTH-BEST UTME CANDIDATE WITH ₦1 MILLION

Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has presented a ₦1 million cash reward to Master Daniel Osagiobare, the Edo-born student who emerged as the highest scorer in the South-South and the fourth-best candidate nationwide in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Osagiobare, who scored 368 in the examination, was received by the deputy governor at his office in Benin City on Wednesday, where he was commended for his exceptional academic performance.
Idahosa described the student’s achievement as a source of pride for Edo State, saying it reflects the intelligence, discipline and determination of young people in the state when given the necessary support.
He explained that the cash reward was intended to recognise Osagiobare’s outstanding performance and encourage other students to strive for academic excellence.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration to improving the quality of education and creating opportunities for talented youths to excel both nationally and internationally.
According to Idahosa, the success recorded by the student has not only brought honour to his family but has also placed Edo State in the national spotlight for educational excellence.
He assured that the state government would continue to identify, support and reward exceptional young talents capable of contributing to the state’s growth and development.
In his response, Osagiobare expressed gratitude to the deputy governor for the recognition and financial support, describing the gesture as a major source of motivation to remain committed to his academic goals.
His father, Christopher Osagiobare, also appreciated the Edo State Government for celebrating his son’s achievement, noting that the reward would inspire other young Nigerians to pursue academic excellence.
The presentation underscored the state government’s commitment to recognising outstanding academic achievements and promoting education as a pathway to personal and national development.
