A combined team of operatives from the Edo State Police Command, local hunters and other security agencies has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims in the state.

One other victim, however, remains in captivity as security operatives intensify efforts to secure the person’s release and apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this to journalists in Benin City.

According to her, the victims were abducted by gunmen in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, and taken into the Illeh Forest.

Ikoedem identified the three rescued victims as Olaefe Ehimen, Taiye Ibrahim and Mrs Ehimen.

She said the kidnappers had contacted the victims’ families and demanded ransom before the security agencies intervened.

“The police received a distress call over the kidnapping incident and mobilised, in collaboration with local hunters and other security agencies, for bush combing in Illeh forest and rescuing the victims.

“The operation also led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the kidnapping,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.
