ENO PLEDGES STATE SUPPORT FOR COMPLETION OF AKWA IBOM 330KV POWER PROJECT

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has assured the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NDPHC) of the state government’s support towards resolving outstanding issues affecting the completion of the National Integrated Power Project along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis.
Eno gave the assurance on Tuesday when he received a delegation from the NDPHC, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Adighije, at the Government House in Uyo.
The governor said completing the transmission project would significantly improve electricity supply in Akwa Ibom and contribute to the growth of the state’s industrial sector and the wider power industry.
He noted that the state government would intervene to facilitate the resolution of outstanding challenges delaying the project.
Eno said the completion of the project was crucial to the state’s industrialisation efforts and its objective of providing more stable electricity to residents.
He disclosed that the intervention would particularly support the completion of the 330kV transmission line, which is expected to strengthen power supply across the state.
Responding, the NDPHC Managing Director, Adighije, commended Governor Eno for his willingness to intervene in the challenges confronting the project.
She described the governor’s commitment as a significant boost to the administration’s development efforts and assured the state government of NDPHC’s readiness to collaborate with it.
Adighije explained that the project, which commenced about two decades ago, had encountered several challenges, particularly the non-payment of wayleave compensation to communities affected by the transmission infrastructure.
According to her, the outstanding compensation issues had contributed significantly to the delay in completing the project.
She said the delegation visited the governor primarily to brief him on the challenges and seek the state government’s assistance in resolving them so that work could be completed.
The NDPHC boss also congratulated Governor Eno on the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
She expressed the company’s readiness to work with the state government in developing an effective electricity market framework capable of improving power distribution and regulation within Akwa Ibom.
Adighije appealed to the state government to intervene in the outstanding community compensation issues, stressing that resolving them would enable the NDPHC to complete the project for the benefit of residents of Akwa Ibom and the country as a whole.
