FCT POLICE TIGHTEN SECURITY, DEPLOY BOMB SQUAD TO WORSHIP CENTRES FOR EID

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to worship centres, recreational facilities, and other public gathering points ahead of the 2026 Eid al-Adha celebrations.

The deployment forms part of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free celebration across the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said security operations had been intensified across the territory.

She noted that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies including the military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Immigration Service, has activated a joint operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT.”

According to the statement, the operation has been structured into strategic sectors across the territory, with continuous patrols and coordinated security actions designed to prevent and respond swiftly to criminal activities.

As part of preventive measures, EOD teams have been directed to carry out proactive sweeps of worship centres, recreational spots, and other venues expected to host large crowds during the festivities.

The Command also disclosed that intelligence-led raids and operations targeting criminal hotspots and drug-related locations have been ordered, with strict instructions for officers to maintain professionalism and operate within legal boundaries.

The Commissioner of Police also held a strategic virtual meeting with divisional police officers and crime officers across the FCT, urging heightened vigilance, improved response to distress calls, and stronger community engagement before, during, and after the celebrations.

Residents were advised to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to report suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.
