A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan, effectively clearing him to participate in the 2027 presidential election.
In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu upheld a ₦20 million cost imposed on the plaintiff’s lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi, who filed the suit.
The court also awarded an additional ₦1 million cost in favour of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Justice Lifu ruled that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to institute the case, noting that he did not suffer any personal injury or loss arising from Jonathan’s alleged plan to contest the election.
He further stated that both a Federal High Court in Yenagoa and the Court of Appeal had previously affirmed Jonathan’s eligibility to run for office, making the present court bound by those decisions.
The judge described the suit as an “abuse of court process” and dismissed it as frivolous.
