Tragedy struck on Monday at the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, Delta State, as four persons lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a fatal road accident.

The crash, which involved a cement-laden truck and two other vehicles, occurred when the truck reportedly lost control while navigating the bridge. Eyewitnesses said the truck fell and crushed two vehicles, leaving several occupants trapped. The victims were rushed to St. Rebecca’s Hospital along Nnebisi Road.

Confirming the incident, the Delta State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Frederick Ogidan, said the accident was caused by excessive speeding on the part of the truck driver.

“Four persons have been confirmed dead. The vehicle involved was a BUA truck carrying cement, not a Dangote truck as speculated. It is unfortunate that such a crash happened on that very good road, which shows the driver was probably over-speeding and lost control,” Ogidan stated.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during the ‘Ember months’, and to strictly obey traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
