FUSENGBUWA RULING HOUSE POSTPONES AWUJALE NOMINATION MEETING IN IJEBU-ODE

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has postponed its much-anticipated nomination meeting for the next Awujale of Ijebuland, earlier scheduled for Monday, December 15, 2025, at Bisrod Event Hall in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the Fusengbuwa Nomination Committee and shared with our correspondent by the committee’s spokesperson, Omooba Abiodun Ogidan.
“Due to circumstances beyond the family’s control, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House Awujale Nomination Meeting scheduled for Monday, 15th December 2025, has been postponed. The new date will be announced shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the statement read.
The postponement comes barely 24 hours after the ruling house formally released an earlier notice fixing the meeting for next Monday. The meeting was expected to produce nominees to succeed the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who died in July 2025 at the age of 91 after a remarkable 65-year reign.
Ahead of the now-suspended meeting, the ruling house had issued strict guidelines, stating that only accredited family members would be allowed into the venue. Each candidate was to be represented by two delegates—one to nominate and one to second the nomination while all participants were urged to maintain decorum befitting the sanctity of the selection process.
Pressure had mounted on the Fusengbuwa family last week after the local government authority issued a 14-day ultimatum for the presentation of candidates for the revered throne.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Ruling House, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, for clarification were unsuccessful, as his phone line remained unreachable. However, a senior family member, who requested anonymity, said the postponement was necessary to ensure “adequate preparations and a thorough process that leaves no stone unturned.”
A new date for the nomination meeting is expected to be announced soon.
