GOMBE 2027: PANTAMI EMERGES PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

By: Balogun Ibrahim
The immediate past Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Pantami was selected through a voice vote during the party’s primary election held on Tuesday in Gombe, where delegates and stakeholders endorsed him as the flagbearer.
The exercise took place in the state capital, with party officials unanimously adopting him as the sole aspirant.
He was later declared the party’s candidate by the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Panel, Gregory Yenlong.
Speaking to supporters in a video shared online, Yenlong confirmed Pantami’s emergence, describing him as the duly elected and sole governorship candidate of the party in the state.

Following his nomination, Pantami said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to serve the people of Gombe State.
He pledged that if elected in 2027, his administration would prioritise fairness, equity, and good governance.
Pantami is expected to face the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Jamilu Gwamna, in the governorship election.
He had previously withdrawn from the APC governorship primary in Gombe, citing alleged irregularities and violations of electoral guidelines.
However, his emergence in the PDP has sparked internal concerns, with some aspirants questioning the legality of his entry into the party’s governorship race after earlier participation in another party’s primary.
In a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting in Gombe, four PDP aspirants argued that electoral laws do not permit a candidate to switch parties and contest after already participating in another party’s primary.
They, however, said they welcomed new entrants into the party but opposed what they described as attempts to accommodate candidates who had already taken part in other party processes.
