The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the decision underscores the administration’s commitment to deepening collaboration with civil society organisations, public health professionals and other relevant stakeholders in tackling the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly among young people.
Governor Yusuf said the appointment forms part of a broader strategy aimed at addressing the underlying causes of substance abuse and creating a safer, healthier society for residents.
He expressed confidence that Dr. Magashi’s wealth of experience and dedication to public service would enhance the effectiveness of the Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force and strengthen ongoing efforts to curb drug-related problems across the state.
The governor also revealed plans to establish a mobile court to handle drug-related offences and other social crimes, with the goal of accelerating the prosecution process and improving the administration of justice.
According to him, the proposed court will help ensure swift justice, strengthen law enforcement efforts and serve as a deterrent to individuals involved in drug-related activities and other criminal offences.
